A person or email represents themselves as the bank asking you personal information. Never give out your personal information over the internet or phone. Check with the bank to make sure something is legitimate. The hackers tend to get this information and then they have what they need to change passwords or information in your account.
Most usually with credit cards hacked the fraudsters get away with it because you don’t check your account frequently. You should be checking your account online at least once a week. This helps put a stop to any charges being made by a scammer before you are above your credit limit. Some banks are more diligent in keeping track of credit card expenses that you make.
Something else to consider is that you do get the money back after frustration to you by having to prove the charges false. It is hard to do this if you are actually out of the country when the card has been hacked.
