Credit Card Problem

What are credit card problems?  This answer depends on your view point and we will look at both views.  The first view we are going to take is from the consumer perspective of sliding into credit card arrears.  This is the most frequent credit card problem and can lead to other credit card problems in the long run.

There are numerous issues that you can have that lead to credit card problems such as loss of a job, medical emergencies, and other issues.  These sometimes out of your control, but it can lead to you defaulting on your credit lines.  If you are beginning to slide into the default or late payment status you are sliding into the area of poor credit or bad credit.  You need to stop yourself before you slide completely into this particular section.  There are things you can do to stop the hurt.  First when the credit card company knows you are having problems they are more likely to deal with you.  If you just make late payments or no payments they are going to work fast to provide you with a collection agency to hound you.  This is not what you want.  You want to be able to deal.  In a deal you are sometimes able to get the debt discharged by paying a certain amount of money.  In some cases the company is willing to change the date of your credit card payment to a better time in the month.  When credit card problems begin don’t ignore them because that is the worst thing you can do.

There are always things you can do to try and help yourself.  For example you may ask if they can reduce the interest rate you have been paying.  In this case you should argue that you have been paying on time for however long you’ve had the card and that with a lower interest rate you can make the monthly payments.  This should be true of course.  If the company does not wish to lower the interest rate because of universal default this is where the other type of problem is.  The company is actually the one causing the issues in this case, since they are unwilling to work with you.  Your options in this case are to look for a new card and make sure you haven’t made any late or missed payments yet or you can seek a debt management company that allows you to consolidate your debt.  This type of solution allows the debt management company to buy off the debt for a discount and you can get on with keeping your credit card problems at bay.

Whatever choice you make you need to understand that ignoring the problem is not going to make it go away.  It is just going to hurt you worse.  If you ignore it until you are in arrears there are going to be limited to no options.  In this case you would be looking at bad credit to repair later, which is not a good situation to be in.
